On Repeat

A friend of a friend aka a coworker’s friend aka my internet friend… is named Rob Masefield (more commonly known as, Masey). So Rob and I have never met, but he regularly lands in my inbox with a touch of musical tunes and two doses of soul. Yep, Rob is the music lover behind #MusicMonday – five fresh tracks delivered to you (from Brisbane, Australia!) weekly.

I’m not sure who originally talked me into subscribing to #MusicMonday (likely Michelle, Katie or Jen – bless their souls), but it was one of the best decisions EVER. I have always loved music, but never been tapped into best of the best. Seriously, I think I used to put poison in my ears. I won’t even tell you what I listened to throughout most of my 20’s, but think of the absolute worst and then you’re probably on the right track. And uh yeah {insert transparency here}, I still have Kesha on my 10k run playlist… “because your love, your love, your love is my drug”  ♫ ♪. Forgive me Rob, for I have sinned. ;)

Nowadays, I get lost in music. It calms me to my core. Hours past by and I don’t even realize that I’ve been listening to the same song on repeat.  I keep my eyes on new artists performing at intimate venues. I get caught up in concerts – talented musicians doing what they love fills my heart to the brim.

When a day is going to shit, I crave my headphones. Give me music and all will be well again. Music has turned bad days to good days. Music has turned good days to great days.

Music has been my sanctuary.

“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” – Plato

Rob, thank you for continually filling my inbox with musical delights.  Much gratitude to you. xo

PS – A few tracks that I can’t get enough of:

A Great Big World – Say Something

James Vincent McMorrow – Higher Love

Bear Mountain – Congo

… also regularly on my playlist: Lumineers, Passenger, Passion Pit, Angus & Julia Stone, The XX, Bahamas, St. Lucia, Lighthouse & the Whalers, Imagine Dragons, Of Monsters & Men, Ben Howard, Van She, Evening Hymns, Josh Pyke, Tegan & Sara, The Paper Kites, Said the Whale, Michael Franti and Kodaline. Love love.
