If someone asks me what my favourite song or band is – I generally answer with whatever song or band is top of mind. I am absolutely brutal when trying to remember song titles, artists, lyrics, etc. It would be in your best interest to never invite me to “name that tune” or at the very least, just put me on your opposing team.
I can truly say I love and appreciate music. I love everything from Jack Johnson to Dragonette to Muse to Marc Cohen to Owl City to Feist to Kanye West to Motley Crue to Ani Difranco. I don’t have a favourite genre. I give every artist that touches my life the benefit of the doubt.
Some of my favourites (in no particular order):
- Basement Jaax – Oh My Gosh
- Beyonce feat. Kanye West – Ego
- Bruce Springsteen – Rosalita
- David Gray – This Year’s Love
- John Mayer – Waiting on the World to Change
- Journey – Don’t Stop Believing
- Michael Buble – Crazy Love
- Lady Antebellum – Need You Now
- Lenny Kravitz – Fly Away
- Otis Redding – Sitting on the Dock of the Bay
- Pointer Sisters – Jump
- Tracy Chapman – Fast Car
Ahh just thinking of these songs makes me smile. Memories attached to every single one.
Concerts I have been to: Barenaked Ladies w/ Howie Day, Christina Aguilera w/ Pussycat Dolls, Black Eyed Peas, Bryan Adams w/ Daniel Powter, The Goo Goo Dolls, Divine Brown, No Doubt w/ Paramore, Feist, John Mayer w/ Michael Franti & Spearhead, Lilith Fair (Colbie Calliat, Sarah McLachlan, Sugarland, Erykah Badu), Michael Buble w/ Naturally 7, and NEXT >> Jack Johnson (October 2, 2010 in Vancouver).
Considering I practically never knew concerts existed until I moved to Calgary in 2003, not too shabby. I’m sure there are more too, but my memory (ha ha – no surprise) escapes me. Did I LOVE every single one? Probably not. Did I learn something at every one? Absolutely.
Recently someone tweeted on the Calgary feed that their was a girl named Jocelyn Alice singing at Taste of Calgary. I decided to check out her website and was blown away. A new favourite, The Thought of You:
Last week I went and saw Michael Buble perform at the Saddledome. The concert just reinforced the fact how much I truly appreciate raw talent. Buble’s talent coupled with humor and personality, sent me over the edge. One of the best concerts I have ever been to.
What’s the best concert you have been to? Favourite artist?
